5 Secrets To The Perfect Cookie

Tips & tricks to achieve the most delicious cookies of your life!

How to make Neapolitan Cookies with cake mix

You will need a vanilla and strawberry cake mix for these cookies. Mix each one up separately.

All you need to add is 1/3 cup of oil and a couple of eggs for each mix. Remember to whisk the dry cake mix and remove any lumps because they are impossible to get rid of once the dough is made.

I prefer to use a hand mixer to combine the dough but it can easily be done by hand.

FAQs

Does cookie size affect baking time? ›

If you wanted to make smaller half-sized cookies then the baking time will be reduced, however it is unlikely to be half of the time.

What is the difference between cookie and cake mix? ›

Leavening Amounts Are Different

A leaven is a substance used to expand batter or dough. Baking powder, baking soda, and yeast are elements included in this category. A cake mix has a higher amount of leavening than a cookie mix because a cake is supposed to rise more than a cookie.

Is it better to bake cookies at 350 or 375? ›

We've found that the optimal temperature for cookie baking is 350F. It gives the butter in the dough time to melt and lightly spread before the remaining ingredients cook through.

Is it best to bake cookies at 350 or 375? ›

350° is the standard temp for a cookie, and it's a great one. Your cookies will bake evenly and the outside will be done at the same time as the inside. Baking at 325° also results in an evenly baked cookie, but the slower cooking will help yield a chewier cookie. The outsides will be a little softer, too.

Why are my homemade cookies like cake? ›

The cookies came out cakey. Baking powder or flour in excess will cause cookies to rise more, making them more fluffy and cakey. Increased sugar will make them caramelize more and increased fat will make the dough heavier and richer, all increasing retention of water in the dough- these all add up to chewier cookies.

Why should you let cookies cool before baking more cookies? ›

Dropping cookies onto a hot baking sheet — one that just came out of the oven and hasn't had a chance to cool down — means that the butter begins melting even before the cookies go into the oven. These cookies ultimately spread out too much during baking.

Should cookies be uniform in size so they bake at the same rate? ›

Shape Dough Into Cookies of the Same Size for Even Baking

Since cookies all bake on the same sheet, it's important that each cookie is about the same size, so they all bake up in the same amount of time. Always leave enough room for cookies to spread on the sheet—about 2 inches is a good rule of thumb.

Why is a similar cookie size important when baking? ›

Consistent size gives consistent baking. Size impacts the time needed to properly bake your cookies, and unless you have individual pans to bake each cookie, your cookies will bake differently if they are sized differently.
