Why is it called Muzak? ›

The word “Muzak” is a play on “music,” inspired by popular brand names at the time of the company's development, particularly Kodak. Muzak's mission was to create soothing, inspiring background music that customers or employees would barely notice, but would keep them going throughout the day.

Oh, and it's no longer Muzak, which many people might associate with perky renditions of “Girl From Ipanema” while riding an elevator. The firm was acquired in 2011 by Texas' Mood Media, and the audio service was rechristened with that company's moniker.
