Spooky Chic Halloween Kitchen Decor (2024)

I’m inviting you into my butler’s pantry to share some spooky chic Halloween kitchen decor. I used ghost tealight holders and pumpkins to create a ghoulishly good display.

Step Into my Boo-tiful Pantry

Ready for some Halloween kitchen decor ideas? Good! You’ve come to the right place. I have a new display to share along with an assortment of other haunting ideas.

So, I have this little collection of ghost tealight holders that I’ve been gathering over the past few years. (They are handmade and sold by Mollie Jenkins Pottery. She sells them once a year (usually in early August). You might remember that last year I created a Halloween mantel using them. (You can check that out HERE if you missed it.)

I love putting the ghost tealight holders on display every year and since I did a different mantel display in my family room this year (which you can see HERE), I was brainstorming where and how to use them.

Inspiration struck when I was in my kitchen one day and thought they would look perfect when spread out on the shelves in my pantry. I immediately got to work and created what I’m sharing with you today. I couldn’t be happier with the results.

How do I decorate my kitchen for Halloween?

As I mentioned above, last week I showed you one of my fall mantel displays. In that post, I shared five principles of decorating.

Since these ideas can be applied to anything you’re decorating, I thought I’d walk you through them again here but with a focus on Halloween kitchen decor. Sound good?

1.Start With a Theme and/or an Inspiration Piece:

It’s pretty obvious what my theme and inspiration are for this space: Halloween and my ghost tea light holders. I spread the ghosts out on the shelves in a sporadic, but thoughtful way. It took a couple of tweaks, but I think it looks pretty good!

It was easy for me to figure out a color scheme. While this wasn’t really necessary, it guided me as I picked out some pumpkins and a few other accessories to complete the look.

2.Shop Your Home First:

My goal for this Halloween kitchen decor was to use what I already had on hand. That’s exactly what I did. Other than purchasing a handful of small pumpkins and gourds, I spent nothing to put this together. If you get creative and use things in a different way, you’d be surprised at all the things you can do with your existing decor.

3.Add Seasonal Elements:

My pantry shelves are pretty well stocked, so I didn’t need to add much. However, a few carefully placed pumpkins and gourds added to the seasonality of this display.

I also tucked in a brown transferware plate and a few copper pieces for a little added autumnal interest.

4.Make it Glow:

This was easy. I just added tealight candles to my tea light holders. Done! Also, several weeks ago I picked up this double taper candle sconce that I hung right outside my pantry. It brought everything together.

5.Add something Unexpected, Personal, and/or Quirky:

As a final finishing touch, I tucked a few cast iron spiders around my display. They just added that extra touch of spookiness. There are lots of existing unique and personal elements in this space too. I have lots of vintage serveware and antique kitchen accessories that look fabulous no matter what the season.

Side note: A New Door!

This is a bit random, but I thought it was worth mentioning. I got a new exterior door in my family room. You can see it here:

I had been wanting to replace the existing door for quite some time. I was having some windows and a door replaced in my basem*nt studio so I just added this one in as well. I couldn’t be more pleased with how it looks. It added a ton more light to this room which then bleeds into the kitchen. This door matches the french doors that I added to my dining room during my kitchen renovation.

Create a Creepy Appetizer

A few years ago I whipped up these spider cheese balls. They are still one of my favorites. Not only are they delicious, but they add the perfect amount of frightening flair. If you want something a bit chicer, check out my mini pumpkin cheese balls or everything bagel cheese ball.

Style a Pumpkin Planter Centerpiece

This pumpkin planter centerpiece was a project I did in my old house. While that was quite a few years ago, I still love how it looks today. It’s an easy project with beautiful results.
