Golden parachute to GM
I got my letter on Friday last week.
I've been PM for the past 4 years.
I only made it a bit past FO (@28K MQM) in '07.
Was getting ready for the "thud" of the hard landing.
But the golden GM parachute opened. ^ wheee! I'll take it.
Thanks Jeff! :-:

I got PM with 65K MQMs. A coworker got PM with 60K MQMs. All his flights and almost all of mine were Business Elite international.

I got comp'ed GM last year after being Plat for a couple years but then not flying Delta at all in 2006. In 2007 I only flew Delta one time (FLL-LAX in Y) and in the mail today was another "soft landing" letter giving me SM status for 2008. Certainly did not expect another soft landing but certainly will not turn it down.

Why try?
Since it appears that the value of SkyMiles is dropping quickly, I have been considering switching from 100% earning to 100% burning in 2009 (too late for 2008, already booked for 75k MQM).
However, I dread the thought of dropping from PM to nothing, so I am considering going for SM or GM in 2009. But after reading this thread, why should I bother? I think I'll give DL $0 in 2009 and take my chances.
I think that these soft landings, etc water-down the program for those us who actually qualify. There should be absolutely NO exceptions. to Delta for this.

This was my first year as a medallion. Delta clearly made a lot of money off of me on my ATL-GRU runs in BE. Why shouldn't they give me PM at 65K? Apparently its not JUST about miles. Its also about miles and revenue.

Most of my miles were also int'l J. I guess all miles are equal but some are more equal than others...

I also did that in 6 months. Should I not get it then?

I got the letter today explaining why I deserved a soft landing. I have to agree, but it did arrive a half week after the credentials informing me that they would arrive in 2-4 weeks.
Either way, I'm pleased and might even have a "thanks for the soft landing, Delta" button made to wear on all flights until I lose status completely.

I wonder how many flights it would be before somebody would point out that you were thanking the crew before the plane had actually landed.

Well I did get my soft landing from Gold to Silver, even though I had a status match to Gold from my AA PLT last yr. In 2006 I had 27k EQMs and then a week later was at Gold cus of the status match.
So, apparently even though I only got Gold cus of the status match, they did a soft landing to Silver . They said they hope to regain some of my business again in 2008 and understand that I may fly less lately because, "life happens."

Received the same letter here, except I only had around 20K MQM in '07. Nice thought on the part of Delta, although I am not sure how many trips I will have this year as my travel patterns have decreased significantly.

"We've noticed you're flying less these days.
But we value your past loyalty and will continue to work diligently to earn your business in the future. To thank you for your continued support, we will provide you with complimentary Silver Medallion® status through February 2009."
Delta apparently gave me a soft landing from GM->FO.
Except it's irrelevant because I qualified for FO with > 25k MQM in 2007 anyways. Brilliant IT department over there.

Soft Landing for elites in 09?
All,
Any grumblings or rumors about a soft landing for status for 2009? I am currently a PM, and am about 3k miles short of gold for 2009. Should I make a quick weekend jaunt or do I have nothing to worry about?
Thanks
